This jam is so delicious that I can hardly believe it. It was a recipe shared on my friend’s Facebook and after seeing some gorgeous grapes in the supermarket, I figured it would be worth a go. I should tell you that it does not taste like wine. It tastes like really ripe purple grapes. It goes well with cold meat and cheese too!
* Note: It took over 2 hours for the liquid to evaporate but I was not hanging over the stove. It was on low to medium heat and I gave it an occasional stir. So although it took time, it was hassle free. About halfway through the cooking time, I blitzed the jam in order to make it less chunky.
* You can use red or purple grapes.
* Use a metal funnel to pour the jam in a jar. I once had a plastic funnel melt because my jam was still a bit warm!
Ingredients: ( Makes 1 mediun sized jar)
400 g red wine(I used the cheap and cheerful brand :))
300 g sugar
1 finely chopped medium apple,peeled or unpeeled. I used a Granny Smith.
400 g seedless purple or red grapes, rinsed, dried and chopped
Optional: small cinnamon stick. I did not use this because I ran out of cinnamon.
In a medium sized pot, heat the sugar, cinnamon and wine over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Stir now and then to help it along.
When it has completely dissolved, add the apple and grapes.
Cook on low to medium heat until most of the liquid has evaporated. Like I said, mine took about 2 hours and while I stirred occasionally with a wooden spoon, it took care of itself while I went about doing other things in the house.
Pour into sterilised jar.
